Norvin H. Anderson, age 82, of Decorah, Iowa, left to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, October 9, 2021, at Wellington Place in Decorah, after complications from a severe fall.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah with Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Inurnment will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah, with Military Honors.

Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah.

Norvin Henry Anderson was born October 17, 1938, in Howard County, Cresco, Iowa, the son of Henry and Norma (Wangsness) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed atญญญญญญ Peace Lutheran Church. He was a 1956 graduate of Ridgeway Public School. He served in the United States Army as an Atomic Weapons Mechanic/Bomb Leader from 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1959.

Norvin was united in marriage to Diane Bergan, daughter of Orval and Adeline (Haugen) Bergan of Decorah on March 12, 1960 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. This union was blessed with three children: Kevin, Kim, & Lori.

Norvin worked as a carpenter and construction worker for his entire life. He was always fixing and building things. He had many hobbies including playing fast pitch softball, being a racing official at both the Decorah and Waukon tracks, playing golf, cards, and gambling either at the casino or at the horse races. He loved to spend time with all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren – one could find him at all of their sporting events, stock car races, as well as visiting at their homes to watch the great grandchildren ride their bikes or motorcycles, picking apples, and catching fish.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Anderson on April 20, 2009; his parents, Henry and Norma Anderson; and his brother Wayne Anderson; his mother- and father-in-law, Orval and Adeline Bergan, brothers and sisters in-laws, Norm Gullickson, Duane & Cheryl Bergan, and Donna Gavle.

Norvin is survived by three children: Kevin Anderson (Wendy Kjome) of Decorah, Kim (Keith) Kearns of Clear Lake, IA, and Lori (Dave) Steffen of Decorah; grandchildren, Dillon (Brittany) Anderson, Dacia (Miller) Cenat, Brittney (Aron) Dahl, Kristi Kjome Johnson, Kayla (Aaron) Howlett, Kody Kearns, Dallas (Katie) Steffen, Dustin (Chelsea) Steffen, and Cole (Elle) Steffen. Eleven great grandchildren, Alayna Anderson, Makai Cenat, Brockton, Layne, & Drake Dahl, Hannah Howlett, Hattie, Gemma, & Marlow Steffen, Luke & Lily Steffen. He is survived by four sisters: Helen (Pete) Storch of Stoughton, WI, Lorna (Jerry) Engen of Andover, MN, Jeanne (Mark) Peterson of Hiawatha, IA, Ila (Rick) Barber of Kingston, IL; one brother, Verne (Marianne) Anderson of Middleton, WI, and brothers- and sisters-in-law: Karon Anderson of Waterloo, WI, Daryl (Donna) Bergan, Elaine (Jerry) Gipp of Decorah, Linda (Stuart) Collins of Burnsville, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
