Judy Fleshner, age 77, of Decorah, IA, died on Monday, October 11, 2021, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.
A celebration of Judy’s life will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, IA.
A private family burial will be held at the Madison Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. Jim Scaife presiding.
Judith Ann Fleshner was born on November 19, 1943 to Robert Earl Beltz and Beverly Jean Mrkvicka in Cedar Rapids, IA. She grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Jefferson Senior High School in 1961. After graduating high school, she was united in marriage with Lyle Holstad on September 2, 1961. Together they had 3 children; Gary, David, and Michelle. Later on in life she was united in marriage with Lloyd Fleshner and to this union they had twins; Jenn and Jason. Years later, they divorced.
Throughout her time in Decorah, she worked at Hale’s Womens Wear as a sales clerk, Barthell Eastern Star Home as a nurse aide, Midtown Motel as a manager and then the majority of her years were spent caring for children in her home, better known as Grandma Judy’s Daycare. She poured her heart and soul into caring for many families in the Decorah community. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. On the weekends you could catch her out and about, shopping in the Decorah area stores and you could bet she would never miss her Saturday morning hair appointment, with Becky, at the Mane Event. While never fulfilled, she had always hoped to marry George Strait one day.
She is survived by her children: Gary Holstad, Decorah, IA; Dave (Doreen) Holstad, Decorah, IA; Michelle Holstad Gilgour, Huntersville, NC; Jenn (Troy) Wendling, Independence, IA. Grandchildren: Levi (fiancé, Abby Phillips) Holstad; Logan (friend, Kiersten Christianson) Holstad and Lindsi Holstad; Danielle (Howard) Bounds; Daiton (Tanner) Johnson; Tera Courtney, Reese and Drew Wendling; Alec, Trinn and Tinley Fleshner-Einck. Great grandchild: Kyla Bounds. Sister: Sheri (Jim) Akre, Winona, MN. Brothers: Tim (Tammy) Knutson, Ridgeway, IA and Lester (Renae) Knutson, Chatfield, MN along with several nieces and nephews.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband: Lyle Holstad. Son: Jason Fleshner. Father: Robert Beltz. Mother: Beverly (Kenneth) Knutson. Brothers: Larry Beltz and Dennis Knutson. Sister: Marcia Knutson
