Irma Eileen Osmundson, 84, of West Union, Iowa died Sunday, September 26, 2021 in her home. She was born February 22, 1937 to Irvin and Evanna (Schweinefus) Anfinson at home in rural Ossian, Iowa. She graduated from Ossian High School in 1954. On September 14, 1958, Irma was united in marriage to Gordon Osmundson at Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Ossian. They lived in the Ossian and West Union areas throughout their entire marriage, and three children were born to the couple. Gordon passed away on October 26, 2000.

Irma was baptized and confirmed at the Stavanger Lutheran Church, and attended First Lutheran Church, rural Ossian, as well as St. Olaf Lutheran Church in West Union, prior to joining the Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, IA. At the Zion Lutheran Church, she was a member of the Hannah Circle, serving as Secretary for part of the time. She enjoyed tying quilts at Do Days on Mondays with the ladies when she could. Irma worked at Wessel’s Dime Store in Ossian prior to marriage. After they were married, she helped Gordon on the farm until 1964. When they moved to West Union, she worked as a part-time clerk at several local dime stores throughout the years. She enjoyed helping customers at Karbon’s Dime Store, Robinson’s Variety Store, and D’Fay’s, all located in West Union. She was also a loving and devoted housewife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Irma’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family. While Gordon was living, they spent many nights camping and even more days fishing. She also enjoyed playing cards, shopping, going to family bonfires, making crafts, going to garage sales, taking spontaneous “road trips” with family, attending grandchildren’s activities and sports, doing Christmas baking with the granddaughters, and watching basketball. She was always ready to ride along when invited and really enjoyed her time with others.
