Laura Kuboushek, age 96 of Calmar, IA, died on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville with Rev. Daniel Knipper presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. There will also be a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. The Schluter-Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Laura was born May 2, 1925 on a farm near St. Lucas, the daughter of Hugo and Barbara (Hackman) Rausch. Laura received her education at St. Luke’s Catholic School in St. Lucas, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Robert Kuboushek on November 27, 1948 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas. They established their home on a farm near Conover where they raised their family of six children: Linus, Tom, Steve, Mike, Kevin and Lori. Laura had a large garden and raised chickens to provide wonderful home cooked meals. In November of 1979 they moved to a new house in Calmar. Laura was a daycare provider for several years. Her home was often a gathering place for grandchildren before and after school and summer activities, and Laura provided transportation for grandchildren and their friends.

Laura was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and a member of St. Wenceslaus Guild for over 70 years. She enjoyed playing cards, embroidering dish towels and pillow cases, doing numerous crafts and puzzles, and playing board games with her grandchildren.

Laura is survived by her six children: Linus (Bette) Kuboushek, Davenport; Thomas (Marj) Kuboushek, Calmar; Steven (Janice) Kuboushek, Ridgeway; Michael (Ann) Kuboushek, Calmar; Kevin (Cathy) Kuboushek, Lakeville, MN, and Lori (Mark) Glawe, Garber, IA. Grandchildren: Kyle (Richelle) Kuboushek, Amy (Kenny Hora) Kuboushek; Kari and Bradley Kuboushek; Daniel (Staci) Kuboushek, David Kuboushek, Mark (Laura) Kuboushek; Julie (Dalton) Smith, Adam (Amanda) Kuboushek, Shelly (Shane) Christensen, Sarah (Joe) Martin, Ben Kuboushek, Jenni (Jarred) Hentges, and John Glawe. Great-Grandchildren: Aubrey and Jackson Kuboushek, Isabella, Clayton, Elliott and Alec Kuboushek, Alexis and Leilana Kuboushek, Brinley, Emma and Mabel Smith, Kaden and Connor Kuboushek, Owen Christensen, Eleanor Martin, and a Great-Grandchild due in October. Sister: Verena Croatt. Sister-in-law: Darlys Rausch.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Kuboushek in 2002. Her parents, Hugo and Barbara Rausch. Brothers: Carl (Helen) Rausch, Alex (Loretta) Rausch, Herb (Christine) Rausch, Donald Rausch. Sister: Hermina (Arnold) Boeding. Father and Mother-in-law, Albert and Christina Kuboushek. Brothers-in-law: James Croatt and Raymond (Delores) Kuboushek. Sisters-in-law: Wilma (Rudy) Gerleman, Mildred (Edward) Silhacek, Viola (Frank) Meyer, Marcella (Ted) Schmitt.
