Marilyn Ruth Breitsprecher, 75, of Ossian, Iowa died on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at her home in Ossian. Marilyn Ruth was born May 18, 1945 to Daniel and Dorothy (Kneeskern) Russett in Decorah, Iowa. She graduated from South Winn High School in 1963.

On June 27, 1964, Marilyn was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Gary Breitsprecher. Five children were born to this union.

Marilyn kept herself busy through the years working side by side on the farm with Gary and sharing her love of music with many people. Marilyn taught piano lessons for over 40 years to as many as 30-40 kids per week. She was also the director of the Ossian Community Singers and loved the time spent with them. Marilyn enjoyed many Sundays playing the organ at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia as well as teaching the children the Bible.

Marilyn was a natural-born teacher. Many life lessons were learned from her humble and kind demeanor. She spent her later years sharing that guidance with the kids at South Winneshiek Elementary School as a para-educator.

Marilyn was an avid “Hawkeye” fan and loved to hash out the game with Wade over the phone for hours! Many hours were spent on the phone with family and friends. It was a nice break from her tax preparing job with Northeast Iowa Farm Business.

She also kept active by walking frequently around town and kept her mind sharp by working on puzzles such as crosswords and sudoku. She loved playing cards, crocheting, knitting, and baking. Grandma’s cookie jar was always full and waiting for her family and friends to enjoy.

Surviving Marilyn are her four sons, Grant (Amy) Breitsprecher, Chad (Andrea) Breitsprecher, Wade (Gina) Breitsprecher and Clay (Michele) Breitsprecher; twelve grandchildren, Blake (fiance’ Samantha Usher) Breitsprecher, Lane (fiance’, Nikki Seago) Breitsprecher, Logan (fiance’, Lauryn Christianson) Breitsprecher, Austin (Jordan) Breitsprecher, Noah (JonTeria) Breitsprecher, Lucas Breitsprecher, Leah Breitsprecher, Samantha (Bryan) Christophersen, Savannah (Taylor) Wheeler, Sawyer Breitsprecher, Sierra Breitsprecher and Dakota Voves; eighteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dolores Stephan of St. Charles, Minnesota, Kathy (Allen) Gerber of Mendota Heights, Minnesota and Beverly (Curt) Ruston of La Crosse, Wisconsin; brother, Randal Russett of Golden Valley, Minnesota; brother-in-law, John Schultz of Urbandale, Iowa and sister-in-law, Sue Russett of Bloomington, Minnesota.
