Funeral services for Alfred N. Ramstad of Decorah were held Monday, Jan. 7 at the Madison Lutheran Church. Mr. Ramstad, a farmer in Madison Township for many years, died January 4 at the Aase Haugen Home at the age of 82.
Pastors Wm. Thalacker and Pastor Roger Hjelle conducted final rites. Burial was in the Madison Lutheran Cemetery with the following men serving as pallbearers: Orville Hovden, Syver Ramstad, Earl Albertson, Leon Anderson, Ole Bakken and Henry Tollefson. Mrs. Alton Hovden was organist and Mrs. Leonard Crawford was soloist. Arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.
Mr. Ramstad is survived by two daughters and two sons, Mrs. Vernon (Olive) Grinna, Postville, Arthur Ramstad, Janesville, Wis., Stanley Ramstad, Cedar Falls, Ia. and Mrs Robert (Doris) Rendleman, Huntington Beach, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Olena Ramstad; his wife, the former Helen Engen; a brother and two sisters.
Alfred Ramstad was born January 30, 1891 in Madison Township where he received his education. He served with the U.S. Army in World War I and was married January 30, 1926 at the Madison Lutheran parsonage.
He had farmed in Madison Township until 1947, lived with a daughter at Postville for 17 years and resided at the Aase Haugen Home the past four years.
Mr. Ramstad was a member of the Madison Lutheran Church.
