—The casket containing the remains of the late Peter Gjems was probably the largest and heaviest ever brought to Decorah, It was metalic and weighed about 800 pounds. It was so large that neither of the hearses would admit it and the rough box containing it was about three feet square.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born July 14, 1835 and died July 2, 1895. He is buried in Lutheran Decorah Cemetery.
