—The funeral of M. W. Carey will be held to-morrow afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Methodist church.

The Burial of Supt. Cary.
The funeral of the late M. W. Carey, Superintendent of the County House and Farm, was held on Friday last. The remains were brought from Freeport, to the Methodist Church, where the services were held. There were present in attendance eleven engineers of the B, C, R & N. Railway, eight of whom served as pall bearers. The funeral, one of the largest ever held in the city, was under the direction of Great Lights Lodge, A. F. and A. M., accompany{i}ed by Winnesheik Lodge, I. O. O. F., both of which Fraternities deceased was an honored member. A choir consisting of Miss Allen, Miss Crosby, H. H. Cadwell and C. J. Weiser, with Mrs. Chas. Marsh as organist, rendered very appropriate music, and solos were sang by Miss Allen and Rev. F. P. Shaffer. The sermon was preached by Rev D. L. Hilliard.
M. W. Cary was born in Otsego, Allegan Co., Mich., April 23d, 1852, and died at Freeport, Iowa, March 27th, 1895. In August, 1875, he was joined in marriage with Miss Josephine L. Claflin, of Decatur, Mch. Three children were born to them. The eldest, a son, died in infancy, and the others— a dau{g}hter and son—with the wife survive. In 1879, he came to Iowa and secured employment with the Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern Railway. After two years of service as a fireman, he was given an engine, and continued with that company as engineer until late in 1892. He came to Decorah in 1890. and in 1893 he was appointed Superintendent of the County Farm and House His service was extremely satisfactory, and in January last he was reappointed for another term As a citizen he was greatly esteemed by all who knew him, and greatly beloved by all his intimate associates.
The pall bearers were, Gus L. Weiss, S. P. Cameron, W. H. McMullen, A. S. Funk; M. I. Sipher, and Ira Clark, all of their being both Masons and members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, of which the deceased was a member.
Other engineers and railroad men and wives of railroad men in attendance were Messrs. .T. Collins, J. R. Godfrey, John Sanket, Geo. Duncan, Sam Haux and E. C. Dailey, of Cedar Rapids: Medames Gus L. Weiss, W. H. McMullen, J. R. Godfrey, and Miss Myra Funk, of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Park, of Maynard, and Mrs. Vott, of West Liberty.Transcriber’s Note: The name is spelled two different ways. His gravestone in Phelps Cemetery it is spelled Cary.
