DIED.
Kinnison – In Canoe Twp., Winnesheik Co., Iowa, Sept. 15th, 1893, Mr. David Kinnison, aged 82 years, 5 months and 21 days.
Mr. Kinnison was one of the first settlers in this part of the country. He was born in West Virginia, March 24th, 1811. When he was six months old he moved to Ohio where in 1839 he was married to Miss Henrietta Kelly, who survives him. In 1844 they moved to Green Co., Wis., and in 1849 they came to Frankville, Iowa and the following March moved to Canoe township and took a claim where they have lived ever since. When he came here there were but two houses in Decorah and one about four miles this side; there were, however, a good many Indians. He built and ran a saw mill on the Canoe creek near his home and supplied the early settlers with lumber. He was a kind husband and father and a good neighbor. He never connected himself with any church but he was a firm believer in the Bible and in the Christian religion, and in his late years considered himself a Christian. He was never sick a day in his life until of late. His eyesight had been failing for some time and for two years he had been blind, and not being able to get about and exercise as formerly his health gradually declined. He leaves a wife, one son and five daughters who were all with him when he died. J.R.Transcriber’s Note: Find a grave shows he is buried at Burr Oak Cemetery.
