A Sad Affliction.
On Saturday evening last the remains of Master Frederick Hencke Barthell, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Barthell, of West Superior, Wis., were brought to Decorah for burial, the funeral service being held on Sunday afternoon. The little fellow was the victim of a most painful accident. On Thursday afternoon he was playing with some other children when a teamster passed them, his team attached to two wagons, one behind the other. The children climbed upon the tongue of the rear wagon and were enjoying a ride, when, in going over some rough ground, Freddie was jolted off, the wheels of the wagon passing over his chest, crushing him so that life was almost extinct when he was picked up. The shock was so great that his mother, who is a very delicate woman, was thrown into convulsions and for a time the family feared that it might prove fatal to her as well. Freddie was a bright, lovable child and his death is a sore affliction to his parents. The remains were brought to Decorah in charge of the father and grandfather Hencke.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born in 1890 and is buried in Phelps Cemetery.
