Charles Edward Goltz 84, a retired master electrician and World War II veteran, died of natural causes Monday at a Shelby hospital.
His memorial service is 2 p.m. Friday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, followed by burial of ashes with military honors in Mountain View Cemetery. Whitted Funeral Chapel of Shelby is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his daughters, Donna (Joe) Gladeau and Susan (Jim) Lamb of Shelby; a son, Dennis (Tyanne) Goltz of Marina, Calif.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Chuck was born Dec. 29, 1922, in Austin, Minn., to Leonard and Doris (Miller) Goltz. He attended school in Freeport and Decorah, Iowa.
He married Ethel Nesheim on May 12, 1942, in Decorah, and were married for 52 years before she passed away in 1994.
He served with the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, including the Battle of the Bulge.
After the service, he worked for the Coast to Coast store in Decorah. In 1954, the family moved to Shelby, where he was employed by Blumfield Electric before opening his own business, Goltz Electric.
Chuck was a member of Shelby American Legion Post No. 43 and VFW Helof-Holm Post No.1977 in Decorah.
Chuck enjoyed drawing and did most of his daughter Susan's mapwork when she was in school. He could fix anything – so well, in fact, that he was nicknamed "the Wizard."
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Rob in 1999 and Chuck in 2001.
