OBITUARY.
DONALD NOBLE.—Although he had been an invalid for many years his friends had become so accustomed to his state that the intelligence, circulated Saturday morning, that “Dan” Noble was dead, came as a shock to all. A wasting disease which had long preyed upon him did its work and he passed away early in the morning. Mr. Noble was born in 1835, in Scotland, and came to this country with his parents in 1851. For four years they lived in Ohio, and then came to Iowa. During that period Mr. Noble had learned the harness making trade, and after following it as a journeyman for several years, in 1662 he started in business at the stand he so long occupied on Water street. Industrious, frugal, always pleasant, he soon earned and enjoyed a large patronage, which yielded him a competency amply sufficient for his long years of illness. Some ten years ago he retired from active business, though he was connected for several years after with the firm of Finn & Noble as a capitalist. These years were quiet ones in which he enjoyed as well as his delicate health would permit all the comfort which ease and freedom from care could give. In 1864 he married Miss Proper, who survives him. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church last Monday, and were attended by a large company of old friends who will always hold him in high respect as a good citizen, an honorable man and a genial friend.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born May 12, 1835 and died May 8, 1896. He is buried in Phelps Cemetery.
