Thomas Mitchell, whose health has been very poor for some years, passed away at about 8 o’clock on the evening of the 23d, Mr. Mitchell was born in the state of New York November 29th, 1840, and came to Iowa with his parents about forty years ago and settled on the land where he has since made his home. On Jan. 31st, 1877, Mr. Mitchell was united in marriage with Miss Mary Louise Faucett, who, with two sons and a daughter, mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent husband and father. Miss Mary Mitchell, of Hesper, and Mrs. Nancy Forrest, of Illinois, sisters of the deceased are the only surviving members of a once numerous family. The funeral services were held at the Friends church, Rev. J, Hilburn, pastor of the M. E. church preaching the sermon.
