Thomas Burgess died at the home of son George four miles east of Cresco the 5th inst. of old age and a complication of old ailments.
The deceased was born in Canada, June 4, 1833, and early in life came to Wisconsin state, where he lived until 1866, when he located at Bluffton. He was well known in that vicinity as a good neighbor, also as a very temperrate man.
Mr. Burgess was married twice and had four children, three sons and one daughter, all of whom, both wives and children, preceded him in death except Chas. Burgess who now lives north of Bluffton and Geo. Burgess of four miles east of Cresco.
He held to the faith of the Adventist church. The funeral services were held in The Friend's church of Bluffton by Pastor E. W. Wolfe of Cresco Adventist church. Words of comfort were spoken from John 14:1-3 and Rev. 21: to a large assembly of friends and relatives and the remains were laid to rest in the little cemetery on the hill near by, while the relatives mourn their loss and wait the call of the life giver in the resurrection morning.
