Duane Roger Einwalter, 84, went to his eternal rest on December 21, 2020, at the Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2020 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 201 Oak Street in Fort Atkinson, IA with Rev. Nick Radloff officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church.

Everyone attending will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. John’s Nepomucene in Fort Atkinson where Duane was a life-long member.

Duane was born March 15, 1936, son of William Edward and Emily Mildred (Doubek) Einwalter. He completed his education at Fort Atkinson Public High-School, graduating in 1954.

Duane was an Army veteran, serving his country from 1960 to 1962. After the service, he returned home to work on the family farm with his older brother Bill and his younger brother James. On July 9, 1966 he married Phyllis Hackman in Festina and established their home on a farm west of Fort Atkinson. Duane was a lifelong member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Fort Atkinson. He was a Board member of the German Mutual Insurance Association for 29 years (1985-2014) and the Fort Atkinson Co-op.

He loved to share stories of his experiences in Germany and returned 40 years later to visit castles and his old Army base, with his wife Phyllis (2002).

Duane was an avid car and tractor toy collector. He enjoyed card playing, dancing at Polka festivals and spending time with his family. He is remembered by his family for his quick wit, humor and charm.

Duane is survived by his wife Phyllis, four sons and two daughters. Darin (Sue) Einwalter, Ft. Atkinson and their children Toril, Josie (Ethan) Zuercher, William and Addyson; John (Tina) Einwalter, Manchester, MO and their children Morgan, Ethan and Katlin; Robert (Anna) Einwalter, McLean, VA; Cheryl (Dave) Lambert, Denver, CO and their son Tristen Lambert; Emily Einwalter, Minneapolis, MN; Eric (Jennessa) Einwalter, Solon, IA and their children Owen, Simon, Ella and Miles. Sister Lois Einwalter and brother James Einwalter, Fort Atkinson. Sisters and brother-in-law; Lucille (Hackman) Kruse, Betty (Junk) Hackman, Norbert and Mary (Russett) Hackman plus many nieces, nephews and families.

Duane was preceded in death by; his parents, grandparents William and Jesse (Blunt) Einwalter, James and Louise (Jarosh) Doubek, brother Billy Einwalter, aunts Lou Einwalter, Frank and Edna (Einwalter) Krall, Uncle William (Celia) Doubek, his step-grandson, Calen Lambert, his father and mother-in-law Ed and Anna (Schmitt) Hackman, brothers and sister-in-laws Jerry and Florence (Luzum) Hackman, Wes and Irene (Hackman) Shatek, Sr. Phyllis Ann Hackman, Sr. Marcella Hackman, Joe and Rita (Hackman) Shatek, Art Kruse, Paul Hackman, Elnore (Schaufenbuel) Hackman.
