Marie Frances lngvalson entered this world on Sunday, October 30, 1921 at home in rural Spring Grove, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole Cornelius and Emma Louise (Grindeland) lngvalson. She was baptized on December 4, 1921 and confirmed on August 4, 1935 in the Lutheran faith by Reverend T.O. Tolo at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Highlandville, Iowa.

She attended District school number 56, rural Newhouse, Minnesota from 1926 -1935, going thru the eighth grade. Marie then attended her freshman year of high school in Mabel, Minnesota and three years at Spring Grove High School in Spring Grove, Minnesota graduating in the Class of 1939.

After high school Marie worked for several different families in the Decorah area. She then went to work at The Davis Cafe and also worked and lived with the Davis family in the historic octagon house on Broadway Street in Decorah, Iowa. It was at The Davis Cafe that Marie met her future husband, Edward C. Linderbaum. They were married on June 1, 1941 at Preston, Minnesota by Reverend Gaede with good friends, Willard and Olla Clement as witnesses.

Edward and Marie started their marriage in Lansing, Iowa where Edward was the Watkins Products salesman. In 1943, Edward was drafted to serve the US Army during World War II. Marie and daughter Marilyn then moved to Spring Grove, Minnesota to be close to family. Marie and Marilyn travelled to Tyler, Texas in 1945 to be with Edward and lived there for a short time, returning by train to Decorah the day FDR died. Marie and Marilyn lived between Decorah, IA and Spring Grove, MN until Edward returned home late fall of 1946.

In December 1946, they purchased the Watkins Products business and Benson Dress Shoppe in Ossian from Berge, Bertha and Anna Benson. Edward then had the Watkins Products route and Marie went into partnership with Betty E. Staska and formed the Marie and Betty’s Dress Shoppe in downtown Ossian until 1951, when they closed the store. They sold Watkins Products out of the store until 1972 when they sold the building and Marie assisted Edward in the Watkins Products business until his death in 1998.
