The Calmar school was closed on the 11th inst. on account of several reported cases of diphtheria among the children of the town. Up to this date about ten cases have been reported, though most of them are of a mild form, two deaths have occured, a little daughter of Mr. Sam Hove, and also a little child one-and-one-half years old, daughter of E. B. Olson. A strict quarintine is maintained and the thought expressed that the disease is under control as no new cases are reported. The deaths have resulted from what the doctors call diphtheria, or membraneous croup, which as we understand is more dangerous, though not so contageous as diphtheria itself.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows a Jessie Hovey whose father was Sam Hovey was born in 1889 and died Sept. 18, 1897. She is buried in Calmar Lutheran Cemetery.
