Bernard Francis Neuzil was born June 20, 1921 to Frank and Julia (Wandas) Neuzil. Bernard attended St. John’s Catholic School and graduated from Fort Atkinson High school. Bernard worked on electrical jobs until he was drafted in 1941 into the Army. His basic training was in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He served in France and Germany, including the Battle of the Bulge, during World War II. During his time in Europe, he was awarded 4 battle stars for his service. He served until the end of the war and got home to enjoy Christmas Eve with his family in 1945. Bernard and Marie Rilling were united in marriage at 6 a.m. Monday, July 1, 1957, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Bernard worked at the Rilling family farm for several years. He also did masonry work with his father and uncle. He began doing electrical and plumbing jobs as asked and learned on the job. He became quite an expert in the plumbing field and never had to look for work. Bernard is well known as the best plumber around the Fort Atkinson area! Bernard and Marie enjoyed many boat outings with their children as they grew up. They also enjoyed many motorcycle trips together, having traveled throughout the country, Florida to Canada. With a smile, he remembered the first motorcycle he owned was a 70 cc and his last a 1500 cc. Bernard was a member of St John’s Catholic Church, the Huber Steffes American Legion Post 672, Veterans of the Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans.
