Murder in Fillmore County.
Chatfield News:—Anton Johnson, a Scandinavian living near Ostrander, Fillmore county, was on last Thursday morning a prosperous and highly respected young farmer. Now he lies in the county jail with the awful charge of murder hanging over him. The victim was Paul Staare, an old gentleman of 65 years, the father of Johnson's wife. As near as can he learned the two, with two others, spent Thursday in LeRoy. While there the party tarried too long at the cup. When almost at their journey's end Johnson assaulted the old man and knocked him out of the wagon. After arriving at the home of a neighbor, Ole Johnson-Knien, Johnson, in his drunken frenzy, attacked him again, and before he could be stopped he had pounded and kicked him to insensibility. The injured man was taken to his home where he died Monday afternoon. The murderer presented a most pitiable sight when the enormity of his awful crime dawned upon him, as he and his father-in-law got on nicely together when they were in their normal condition. The murdered man was buried at Ostrander yesterday afternoon, and the funeral was largely attended.
