HUSTED—At her home in West Decorah, on the 28th alt., Sarah Ann, wife of Philip Husted, aged 66 years.
Sarah Ann Duff was born in western Canada, Feb. 28th, 1831, and died on the 66th anniversary of her birth. In October, 1850, she married Philip Husted, and in September, 1851, they came to Iowa with Moneek as their objective point. Soon after they secured land near that village, on which they made their home for over thirty years. During those years “Aunt Sally" was a "neighbor” indeed, in the true scriptural sense of that name, to everyone who was sick or in need of such aid on a natural nurse could give. For a quarter-century “Uncle Phil” made all the coffins, and no funeral for a wide range of country could take place unless this worthy couple attended it as the conductors and undertakers. Soon after the sale of their farm home Mr. and Mrs. Husted came to Decorah where they have since lived on the west side. Mrs. H. has been twice stricken with paralysis and had been an invalid, to some extent, for several years. Last week Wednesday she had a fall which dislocated a hip and it is now thought was accompanied by a slight attack of paralysis which affected vital parts. Her death occurred on Sunday afternoon, just before three o’clock. The funeral was held yesterday morning, and the body taken to Centennial church cemetery for burial beside her parents and other relatives. She was denied children of her own; but there are those who will mourn her as all that a mother could have been, and the familiar title of "Aunt Sally” betokens the kindly feeling she always earned from a large circle of young friends, wherever she lived. "Uncle Phil” alone survives her.
