Two weeks since we were called upon to record the death of Mrs. Solomon Shroyer. This week we announce the death of her life companion. After a few days illness Salmon {sic} Shroyer passed quietly away at his home in the eastern part of Bloomfield township, Friday, Feb. 19th. He was born July 11th, 1816, in Randolph Co. West Virginia. In 1837 he moved to Madison Co.. Ind., where he married Miss Eliza McClanahan in 1845.. As a result of their union, three sons were born, all of whom survive their parents. In 1856 they moved to Winneshiek Co., Ia. and continuously lived on the same farm until their death. The funeral was held from the M. E. church, Sunday the 21st, Rev. R. D. McCormack, of Fayette, officiating. Early in life Mr. Shroyer identified himself with the United Breathren church of which he was a consistent member to the time of his death. In our former article we spoke of their early pioneer trials and hardships, their benevolence and generosity, hence it need not be repented at this time. The friends of the deceased desire to thank all who so kindly assisted in the last illness. Another is added to the already large death roll of old pioneer settlers.
Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone shows the correct spelling of his name is Solomon. He is buried in Pleasant View Cemetery.
