Stephen Allen died after a short illness last Thursday morning. The funeral occurred Friday at 1 o’clock p.m., Rev. Wilson, of Decorah, officiating.

Eleven children of the late Stephen Allen, seven boys and four girls, went to Ossian yesterday to have their pictures taken in a group, after which they stepped on the scales with their overcoats and wraps on and brought up the scales at 2,100 pounds. Eight of them weighed 1,685 pounds.

DIED.
ALLEN—At his home in Castalia, Iowa, Thursday, January 7th, 1897, after a brief illness, STEPHEN ALLEN, in his 82d year. Deceased was born in Saratoga county, N. Y , in September, 1825, where he continued to reside until he reached manhood. About this time he was married to Miss Marrietta Cole, and moved to Winnebago county, Ills., thence to Winnesheik connty, Iowa, in 1855, settling in Bloomfield township. Here he made his home and lived until about six years ago, when he moved to Castalia village to reside. His wife preceded him to the spirit land, ten years ago, the 28th of December, last. To them fourteen children were born, eleven of whom survive, and all were able to be at the funeral of their father. They were George, Edward, Fred, Irving, Isaac, Louis and Franklin Allen, Mrs. Weitgenant, Mrs. Greene, Mrs. Kneeskern and Mrs. Grandy. The latter came from Clay Center, Neb., and the sons Louis and Franklin, from South Dakota. The funeral was held Friday afternoon, at one o'clock, Rev. A.G. Wilson, of Decorah, officiating, and inter¬ment took place at the Centennial Cemetery, CARD OF THANKS.—The children of the late Stephen Allen, desire to extend their sincere thanks to their neighbors and friends for the many deeds and words of kindness and assistance during the illness and death of their father.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born September 30, 1825 and died January 7,1897. He is buried in Centennial Cemetery.
