Cyril Bohr, age 94, of Ossian, IA died on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, IA with Rev. Robert Gross presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of service at the church on Saturday. The Schluter-Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Everyone attending is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. The service will also be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/CFOSparishes For those not attending, memorials may be sent to Dennis Bohr at 2342 Tanglewood Rd, Decorah, IA 52101

Cyril Herman Bohr “Dozer Man” was born on December 1, 1925 the son of William and Hildegarde (Heying) Bohr in Ossian, IA. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school through 8th grade outside of Ossian. Cyril worked on the family farm and was also a hired hand for many of the other farmers around Ossian, Festina, St. Lucas area. He married Margaret Lensing on September 22, 1954 in a double wedding ceremony with Margaret’s sister Mary at Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler. Cyril and Margaret farmed near Ossian while raising their eight children. He began working for Reilly Construction doing road work and would be gone for a week at a time. Cyril continued running dozer for many different companies for over 60 years before retiring at the age of 90. He enjoyed playing softball, square dancing, playing the drums, fishing and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He loved bulldozing and often told people that he “enjoyed life”. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian.

Cyril is survived by his children: Dale Bohr, Ossian, IA; Linda (Elbert) Thomas, Folsom, CA; Dennis (Lois) Bohr, Decorah, IA; Glenda (Dennis) Schmitt, West Union, IA; Mary (Mike) Brummond, Fort Atkinson, IA; Darryl (Irene) Bohr, Ossian, IA; Geraldine (Craig Kerndt) Wurtzel, Waukon, IA; Cheryl (Jamie) Riehle, Calmar, IA. Stepson: Dennis Rink, Clarion, IA. Grandchildren: Aaron (Lindsey) Bohr, Nicole Pierce, Adam (Chelsey) Bohr, Darren (Carly) Schmitt, Bradley (Brittney) Schmitt, Brian (Dana) Schmitt, Derek Schmitt, Jordan (Taylor) Schmitt, Amanda (John) Blankenship, Nathan (Jamie) Brummond, Lucas (fiance, Chelsey Ardinger) Brummond, Zachary Brummond, Elizabeth (Glen) Elsbernd, Emily (Michael) Whalen, Erica (friend, Devin) Bohr, Evelyn Bohr (friend, Joseph), Aimee (Edward) Pietan, Megan Rude, Stevie Wurtzel, Ashley (Bret) Tangen, Tyler Riehle and Kylee (friend, Karson) Riehle. 21 great grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren. Sisters-in-law: Grace Gerleman, Fort Atkinson, IA; Theresa (Bill) Orthaus, Ionia, IA and Glenda Lensing, Charles City, IA.

Cyril was preceded in death by his wife Margaret. Parents: William and Hildegarde (Heying) Bohr. Brothers: Vernon (Agnes) Bohr, Jerome (Lorraine) Bohr. Sisters: Rosemary (Matt) Gerleman, Gertrude (Eugene) Novak, Delores (Paul) Riniker, Theresa (Ralph) Moellers, Joan (Walt) Hennis and Hildegarde Bohr in infancy. Father and mother-in-law: George and Catherine (Gilbert) Lensing. Sisters-in-law: Maurita (Elmer) Marpe and Mary Beckley. Brother-in-law: Eugene Lensing
