MRS. C. P. GIBBS.
A telegram received yesterday afternoon conveyed the intelligence that Mrs. C. P. Gibbs, formally years a resident of Decorah, had died at the home of her son George in Sioux City, after an illness of three mouths’ duration.
Mrs. Gibbs was born in New Jersey, was sixty-nine years old and her maiden name was Rachel Ann Drake. She was twice married, her first husband being the father of Lewis Blodgett, of Decorah, and Mrs. Henry Smith, of California. He died when the children were in infancy. Coming to Iowa in 1852 Mrs. Blodgett settled in Glenwood township, where her brother, Nathan Drake, now lives. Her second husband was C. P. Gibbs, and to them three children were born—Frank Gibbs, of Mitchell, S. D., Mrs. Laura Kellogg and Geo. Gibbs, of Sioux City. Besides her children two brothers and two sisters—Nathan Drake, Kels Drake and Mrs. Frazine, of Decorah, and Mrs. Wilson Wise, of Artesian, S. D., survive her.
The remains will be brought to Decorah to-morrow, (Friday,) and the funeral services held at the M. E. church at ten o’clock.
Thus passes another pioneer mother.
