SAD INTELLIGENCE.
The message of the death of Mrs. Ella Miller-Knight, came with a startling surprise yesterday morning. It was sent by Mr. Knight, on the evening of the 1st, and said the remains would start for Decorah Wednesday evening. By due course of trains the funeral party will arrive on the “Burlington” at 1:50 p. m.—to-morrow—Friday. A full explanation of the cause of death was in two significant words at the end of the message- “Boy alive,” —the child lives, but the mother’s life is the forfeit.
Ella Miller, only daughter of Dea. and Mrs. Norris Miller, was born in West Decorah, in May, 1860, and grew to womanhood, most highly esteemed by all who know her. For seven years she was a much-valued teacher in the West Decorah schools, and scores of young people remember with the most hearty respect the labors she exerted to make them enjoy their advantages as scholars. In 1886 she married Dr. Frank M. Knight, and they went almost immediately to northwestern Nebraska to find an opening for a druggist and physician. Circumstances opened another channel, and Mr. K. drifted into banking, at Nonpariel, and later at Alliance in that state, in which business he has prospered. In the same year that she was married she united with the Congregational church of Decorah and in 1888 transferred her membership to the Congregational church at Nonpariel. Upon moving to Alliance, there being no Congregational church there, she joined the Methodist church, and was ever an earnest Christian worker therein. A deep-felt, hearty sympathy will go out to the venerable parents and the bereaved husband.
The funeral services will be held from the parental residence in West Decorah on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she was born May 26, 1860 and died March 1, 1898 She is buried in Phelps Cemetery.
