DIED.
GATES—Of Burr Oak, Iowa, Jan. 1, 1898, of diphtheria, Miss Lelia I. Gates, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Gates, aged 15 years, 24 days.
Deceased was a loving, dutiful daughter, a kind and gentle sister, a sincere and faithful friend. She had gained the confidence, love and respect of all who knew her.
Diphtheria was the final illness that cut down this sweet and beautiful flower. Terrible the blow and sharp and piercing the sting to those who lose their loved ones thus. Yet how precious the consolation of God's word, "Thy children shall come again from the land of the enemy."
Our love goes out in sympathy to the bereaved parents for the loss of their dear one, and we pray that they may cast their burden at the feet of the Savior who is willing to comfort the sorrowing and heal the broken hearted. It will be only a little while until we shall again clasp our restored jewels to our bosoms in that realm of love and life where God himself shall wipe away all tears.
Interment took place in Burr Oak cemetery, Sunday morning, Jan. 2, 1898. The body of the deceased was followed by a goodly number of relatives and friends, Rev. J. Hilburn officiating at the grave.
