MYRNA KAY TROUTEN

Myrna Trouten, daughter of Lucille E. Johnson Trouten and Clair Trouten, was born July 26, 1947, in Preston, Minnesota; and died October 3, 2014; in Tampa, Florida. Growing up she lived on two farms in Winneshiek County, Iowa; attended country schools there as well as Harmony Public Schools in Harmony, Minnesota, her hometown; and with her family was active in the State Line United Methodist Church. She also participated in 4-H where her interests included cooking, baking, sewing, and gardening. She received a B. A. in Library Science from the University of Northern Iowa in 1969 and worked as a school librarian for 3 2/3 years. After working for short periods of time at other jobs in Toronto, Ontario; and in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands; she moved to Tampa 40 years ago, where for more than 31 years she worked in the insurance department at Salvation Army Florida Divisional Headquarters. She and Steven Rhodes were married in 1980 and divorced in 1981. She and John Schelb later became kindred spirits and were significant others for more than 24 years before his death in 2009. They enjoyed listening to Christian music; watching TV; and spending time at parks, beaches, botanical gardens, museums, concerts, arts and crafts shows, and cat shows. Myrna was very fond of cats and always had one as a pet. She also enjoyed playing her keyboard. The last several years she belonged to Victorious Life Church in Wesley Chapel, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; significant other; sister-in-law, Lillian Risch Trouten; aunt and uncle-in-law, Marjorie Trouten Patterson and Donald Patterson; and cousins, Royce Patterson and Cleo Patterson Carolan. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Bru, ce Trouten and Linda Anderson Trouten of Vadnais Heights, MN; niece and nephew-in-law, Annelsbeth Trouten Larsen and Christopher Larsen, of Saint Charles, MO; grandniece, Ariana Larsen; cousins, Marcia Patterson Hanson (John); Randy Patterson (Doris); cousin-in-law, Audrey Lunde Patterson; and friends, including her guardian angels, Shirley Smith and Sheila Spears, who have provided countless acts of kindness during the past years.

Memorial services at Harmony United Methodist Church in Harmony, Minnesota, on Sat., Nov. 8, 2014, at 1:30 PM; and at the Chapel of the Salvation Army Florida Divisional Headquarters in Lutz, FL, on Fri., Nov. 21, 2014, at 3 PM. Cremains interred at State Line Cemetery, Harmony, MN.
