Wilma M. Morse, age 90, of Decorah, Iowa, died Thursday morning, September 17, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society in Postville, IA.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Decorah Lutheran Church with Rev. Peter Kowitz will be officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, one hour before the service, at Decorah Lutheran Church.

As mandated, social distancing and face masks or shields are highly recommended by the family and the church.

Wilma Margaret (Poppe) Morse was born July 12, 1930 at home on the family farm in Chickasaw County near Nashua, Iowa. She was the fourth child of eight born to Edmund and Wilhelmina (Sievers) Poppe. Wilma was born on her mother’s 31st birthday, therefore named for her. Wilma graduated from Nashua High School with the class of 1948, then received normal training to be a teacher, and taught country school.

Wilma married Garland R. Morse on August 6, 1950 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Nashua, IA. They were blessed with three children: Charles, Roger and Karen.

Wilma was a loving wife, stay at home mother, sold Avon, was a cook and baker at Decorah Community Schools, and was Head of the kitchen at Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home. She loved her family, cooking, traveling, playing bridge, making jam, her flowers, and coffee with friends. Wilma will be deeply missed by family and everyone who knew her.

Wilma is survived by her three children: Charles (Lea) of Highlands Ranch, CO, Roger (Stephanie) of Harmony, MN, and Karen (Terry) Winter of Postville, IA; seven grandchildren: Riley Morse, Kaysha Morse, Crystal (Brian) Kademan, Bridget (Billy) Cocciante, Roger (Amanda) Morse, Lizbeth Winter, and Eric (Hannah) Winter; two brothers Wilbur (Yvonne) Poppe of Denton, TX and Harold (Audrey) Poppe of Decorah; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edmund and Wilhelmina Poppe; her husband Garland R. Morse on June 10, 2016; an infant son Bernard; her five siblings: Caroline (George Ellis, George Menken), Lydia (Vincent) Dingfelder, Edmund (Alma) Poppe, Myrtle Poppe, and Melba (Dalton) Compton; her brothers- and sisters-in-law: Bertrum (Emmabell) Morse, Marion “Skip” (Evelyn) Morse, Gordon (Gladys) Morse, Dale (Marie “Gil”) Morse, David (Thelma) Morse, June (Chuck) Mock, and Tommy (Virgil) Lehmann.
