The Pioneer Press, of Miller, Hand Co., S. D., arrived here last week announcing the death of their esteemed citizen Clayton D. Hazen, who formerly lived in our village and grew to man¬hood among us. He was born in Grand Isle Co., Vermont, October 27th, 1855, and came with his parents to Iowa one year later. He was married at Storm Lake, Iowa, in 1880 to Sarah Dorimaster and in 1882 settled in Miller, S. D, where he has been continuously in the mercantile business, and success has attended him during this time. He leaves a wife and two children, George and Bernice, to mourn his loss. He was a member of the Woodmen and Workmen and carried $5,000 insurance for his family, besides owning a good store, home and two farms. Clayton was a good Christian man and well worthy the praise given him by the Press. He had been a victim of consumption for two years and finally succumbed to the disease Feb. 13th, 1899. His father, mother and brother survive him. The father is in Iowa, the mother at Miller and the brother, George, in California. He has many a friend here, who will be said to hear of his death.
