Percy G, eldest son of John B. and Fanny G. Kaye, was born in Calmar. Iowa, June 4th, 1873. He was educated in the Calmar public school, and at the Upper Iowa University where he attended school for two years, when he was compelled to abandon his studies on account of falling health. Though he never afterward attended any institution of learning, yet he was a natural student and investigator, and books were his greatest solace and most constant companion. Few men were more completely fortified by general information. When about ten years of age he was taken by an attack of St. Vitusdance that clung to him, off and on, for about two years, after which he never recovered his previous strength and vitality. In later years he was troubled with valvular disease of the heart but was was{sic} always able to be about. Last fall he thought he would try to teach school and was assistant principal of the Calmar school at the time of his death. The duties of the position, however seemed too great for his strength and his sister taught in his stead a good share of the time. On the 20th of January he was suddenly seized by an attack of what the doctors called embolism -the clogging of one of the small arteries leading to the brain—and was almost entirely bereft of the use of speech which he never recovered to any great extent, though his general health seemed to improve from day to day, until the 9th inst. when he was taken suddenly ill again, with a kind of smothering sensation in the region of the heart. This trouble grew steadily worse till the end came' on Monday morning. Feb 13th, at 6 o'clock.
The funeral services were held at the residence of his parents on the 15th inst. Rev. C. A. Parkin officiating, and interment was made in the Calmar cemetery
