Marie Catherine Monroe, age 88, of Ossian, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Marie Catherine Zweibohmer was born on February 22, 1932 to John and Justina {Klemmer) Zweibohmer, in Ossian, Iowa. She graduated from St Francis de Sales high school in 1949. While in high school, she was a member of the girl’s basketball team and worked at NiCandy Cafe.

On May 8, 1950 she was united in marriage to Curtis Monroe at St. Francis de Sales Church in Ossian. They were the parents of six children. Curtis passed away, on July 12, 2006, at the age of 80. Marie was a member of St Francis de Sales Church, the Rosary Society, and the Catholic Daughters. Marie was a full time homemaker and Mom. She enjoyed having the Grandchildren stay during their summer vacations. She loved playing games and cards with them. She looked forward to spending a week every summer, with family at the lake in Minnesota. She spent many hours reading books and putting together jig-saw puzzles. Every Christmas she received a new batch of puzzles from her family, so she never ran out. She enjoyed Polka and Country Music, especially, Molly B, Johnny Cash, and her favorite, Willie Nelson. She was both an Iowa State Cyclone and Iowa Hawkeye fan, along with Days of Our Lives.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen (David) Macal of Ridgeway, IA; five sons: Larry (Sharon) of Prescott, WI, Dale {Marcia) of West Union, IA, Denis (Tina) of Clermont, IA, Keith (Quettie) of Woodbine, IA, and Ron of Ossian, IA. 15 grandchildren: Michael (Mel) Macal, Jenni Shaw, Brigid (Dan) Burhans, Morrie (Jessica) Monroe, Mindy (Ray) Stoerp, Molly (Ryan) Holthaus, Jeramy (Tami) Monroe, Zachary Monroe, Carly (fiancé, Kevin Kline) Monroe, Mandy (fiancé, Josh Kobriger) Monroe, Cory (special friend, Jess) Monroe, Brittany Monroe, Shawn (Tina) Sulley, Jamie Clayton, and Jon Schreiber; twenty-six great-grandchildren: Jessica, Justine, and Jenni Knutson, Jeron and Jenaya Shaw, Kieran and Kellan Burhans, Jayden Monroe, Theresa and Haylee Hanson, Addison and Gavin Stoerp, Lily, Gabe, and Cael Holthaus, Kenzie and Holden Monroe, Dylan Start, Miley Monroe, Ryker Nightingale, Reyden Monroe, Shawn Jr, Shawna, and Shane Sulley, Sophia Hadan, and Kali Jo Schreiber and one great-great grandson, Gavin Luster. Also surviving are brother and sisters-in-law, Forrest (JoAnn) Monroe, Fielden (Harriet) Monroe and Rose Keller.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Curtis, her father and mother-in-law, Albert Clark and Mari Monroe, her brothers, Art (Pat) Zweibohmer, Norbert “Buck” (Francis) Zweibohmer, and Leonard (Eunice) Zweibohmer, and her sisters, Marcie (Claus) Hinders, and Corrine (Ralph) Lensing. Brother and sisters-in-law, Alvin (Shirley) Monroe, Bernold (Marjorie) Monroe, Bernita (Glen) Heins, Carroll (Delores) Monroe, Virgil (Lois) Monroe and Marlene Schissel.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, Iowa with Rev. Robert Gross as the Celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Frances de Sales Catholic Cemetery, Ossian, Iowa.
