David J. Courtney, 73, of Forest City, died Sunday, May 10, 2020, at his residence in Forest City while under hospice care. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Shooterz Restaurant in Forest City from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 31. Graveside committal services are at 12:30 p.m., Saturday Aug. 1, at Bluffton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St. SE, Mason City, Iowa 50401.

David James Courtney was born in Decorah Nov. 18, 1946, the son of James R. and Margaret Ann (McCormick) Courtney. He attended school at St. Benedict in Decorah and graduated from DeSales High School in Ossian.

After graduation, Dave worked in many retail men’s clothing stores in Decorah, Dubuque and Waverly. In 1976 Dave moved to Forest City and worked for Winnebago Industries for 36 until his retirement in 2012.

Dave was commonly referred to as “The Veteran” to all his friends in Forest City; and he was an avid supporter of Forest City High School athletics. He enjoyed golf and would regularly be seen at Bear Creek Golf Course in his white pants and white shirt golf attire. He also was a passionate fan of the Green Bay Packers.

He was quick-witted, always had a good joke and was a stranger to no one. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his brothers, Craig (Rosemary) of Waterloo and Wayne (Betty) of Lincoln, Neb.; nephew, Corey of Lincoln, Neb.; niece, Megan of Cedar Rapids; and nephew, Nathan of Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
