Lowell H. Vine, 66, of Ankeny, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2020, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. His wife, Debbie, was with him when illness struck suddenly after a pleasant day spent together at home. The next morning Debbie was at his side when he peacefully left this earth to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Lowell was born Nov. 21, 1953, in Decorah, to Harlan and JoAnn (Thompson) Vine. He graduated from Decorah High School and completed his education at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. He had his own business in Decorah before moving to Ankeny in the early 1980s to begin working as a copier service technician. Over the years he held several positions in service and sales in Des Moines, Ames, Kansas City and Colorado Springs. He was currently employed by Interstate Batteries at its Urbandale headquarters.

Lowell married Debra Garvin in December of 1989. They enjoyed traveling, being involved at church, spending time with their dogs and attending theatrical productions; his favorites were “Les Misérables,” which they were able to see several times, and “Hamilton.” Lowell was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Kansas City Chiefs and was very happy to see the Chiefs win the Super Bowl earlier this year. He also enjoyed photography and computers.

Lowell was preceded in death by his grandparents, Theodore and Myrtle Vine and Leonard and Clara Thompson; mother, JoAnn Vine; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Garvin; and dogs, Mallory, Miata, Oscar, Skylar and Chaz.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Debbie Garvin and their dog, Zachary; father, Harlan Vine; brother, Duane Vine; niece, Angie (Lee) Lindstrom; nephew, Matt Vine; great-nephew, Wyatt Lindstrom; great-niece, Zoey Lindstrom; father-in-law, Paul Garvin; sisters-in-law, Diane (David) Diekmann and Judi (Dave) Needham; Debbie’s nephews and nieces and their spouses and children; and many other relatives and friends.
