Mrs. Betsy E. Potts, who has been a long but patient sufferer from cancerous tumor, passed away on the 4th, and her remains were laid at rest by the side of those of her husband on the 6th. Mrs. Potts was born In Vermont, and came west with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Harkness at an early day, they settling In Newburg township. She and Mr. Potts established a home in Hesper about thirty years ago, and the life that Mrs. Potts led among us brought to her the love and respect of a large circle of friends. Mrs. Potts was the mother of two daughters, who have gone on before, and a son, Geo. L. Potts, whose home is in Hesper. A sister, Mrs. S. C. Brace, of Mabel, and three brothers also remain to share in the sympathy which is extended to them by the entire community. Mrs. Potts was a birthright member of the Friends’ church, but on account of the absence of the pastor, Dr. Slack, the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Harkness pastor of the M. E. church at Mabel, and a quartette of Mabel singers furnished the music.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows her name spelled Betsey and that she is buried in Hesper Public Cemetery. It also shows she was born Dec. 4, 1839.
