Father Cooney Dead.
The Elma Democrat last week contained the following notice of the death of Father Cooney, who was until recently the priest of the Plymouth Rock parish.
On Thursday last occurred the death of one of the best known, best liked and most promising young priests in this archdiocese, Father Cooney, of Plymouth Rock. He was born in Ireland in 1863 and was educated and ordained before he came to this country some eight years ago. A year ago Father Cooney was the picture of health, an athlete. Always a lover of out-door sports, he enjoyed the companionship of young men and took part in their games and tests of physical strength. His good hearted, jovial, reverent and sincere nature won for him the admiration, friendship and respect of all who know him. A few months ago he showed signs of succumbing to the dread disease consumption, and started south with the hope that a change of climate would be beneficial. But it was too late, he had waited too long and the end came sooner than it perhaps would have come if he had remained in the north. He died In New Mexico. The remains were brought to Waterloo, the home of his brother, and were interred there Saturday. Over forty priests were present. Father Slattery preached the funeral sermon.
