Rev. Wm. Cummings, pastor of the M. E. church of this place, died this afternoon at 2 o’clock. The good man retained his mind to the last, and just at almost the last moment pointing upward said to one who called to see him, “Going home! Going home!” He died as a good man does. Probably a more complete obituary will be furnished later. Funeral Thursday at 2 p. m. Rev. F. P. Cassiday will officiate.

OBITUARY.
Rev. William Cummings was born April 6th, 1844, in the County Armagh, Ireland. In 1847 he came to America with his parents, who settled in Philadelphia, where they remained till the year 1854, when they came to De Kalb Co., Ills. He was of a family of five boy and three girls. Two brothers, A. S. Cummings, of Dunkerton, Joseph Cummings, of Maryland, and one sister, Mrs. Francis Stiles, of Rochelle, Ills., survive him. He was a great grandson of Geo. Fox, the originator of the Quaker doctrine. Two of his brothers were also ministers of the gospel.
On January 29th, 1863, at DeKalb, Ills., he was united in marriage with Miss Emma M. Foster, who survives him. Nine children were the result of this union, five of whom, Frank A., of Rockwell City, Ira A., of Charter Oak, Iowa, and George H., Lulu, and Harry R., of Burr Oak, are still living.
He was entirely a self-made man, having been unavoidably deprived of school advantages in his youth, yet he managed, by hard study to acquire a good education. He was converted in early youth, at the age of 21 entered the ministry, and since that time has been actively engaged in the work.Transcriber's Note: His gravestone shows he died June 19, 1900.
