Byron Plato Barker was born on a farm near Ridgeway, on July 24, 1893. At an early age he moved with his parents to the Portman farm near Decorah where he lived until the death of his father in 1905 when he moved with his mother to Decorah. He was employed by J.C. Hexom & Son and stayed with them for several years until on account of failing health he was obliged to give up work. In November, 1912, he went to Oxford, Colorado, where he remained until the time of his death, which occurred Mar. 10, 1916. He leaves to mourn his loss one brother, Harry Barker of Freeport, and one sister, Mrs. Nellie Freyer of Monona, besides a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral services were held at the Willis-Ness undertaking parlors on Thursday with interment in the Russell cemetery, Rev. M Willett officiating. The beautiful floral offerings bespoke the high esteem and love which was felt for the deceased.
