OBITUARY.
Mr. G. W. Oxley departed this life Sunday, April 8th, 1900, aged 75 years five months and ten days.
Deceased was born September 17th, 1824 near St. Clairsville, Bellmont Co., Ohio. While quite young his father's family moved to Coshocton Co., Ohio, where deceased attained his majority. He was married to Eliza Jane Blue, April 14th, 1848. In October 1854 he came to Iowa and settled in Bloomfield township, Winneshiek County, on the farm owned by him at the time of his decease. As the issue of this marriage, ten children were born, eight of whom are now living, viz: S. C., Abraham, Silas, Catherine Banning, Anna Ean, Julia Crescey, Susie Helms, Josephine Harvey. These with his wife and brother, Stewart Oxley, of Decorah, with a largo circle of more distant relatives and friends were present at the funeral. During the last ten years deceased has lived in Ossian.
Mr. Oxley was a man of more than average breadth of wind, positive in his makeup, with a large heart, and had the respect of all with whom he came in contact.
His funeral services took place yesterday at the Centennial church, in the Daniels neighborhood near where deceased lived for nearly forty years, the Rev. C. A. Parkins officiating. At the grave the funeral services of the masonic order were conducted by the Union Band lodge, No. 66, Frankville, of which lodge deceased was a respected charter member.— Ossian Bee.
