Anita Rose Huber was born December 19, 1918 in Hawkeye, Iowa during the influenza pandemic and passed on into eternal life during the COVID-19 pandemic after receiving great care at Aase Haugen Nursing Home since 2011. She is the daughter of the late Frank Huber and Rose Schmitt Huber.

Anita worked as Bookkeeper in Des Moines, IA until she was needed at home to care for her father, Frank Huber, after her mother died. She was a devoted member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar most of her adult life. She attended Mass every chance she could. You would find her walking to church along Hwy 150/Maryville Street in Calmar every weekend, rain or shine.

Anita enjoyed reading and was a friend of the Calmar Library. After her eyesight failed, she enjoyed the audio books sent to her from the University of Iowa Library for the Blind. She was an active member of the Halverson-Giesen Unit 266 American Legion Auxiliary of Calmar Iowa for 47 years. She was dedicated to supporting the Legion, as her father was a World War l veteran, and each Memorial Day you would find her handing out poppies uptown Calmar to everyone that came by.

Many friends cared for Anita when she lived at her home in Calmar. She took many walks around town in the years she lived there and the Calmar residents kept watch over her. Her neighbors and fellow parishioners would stop in for a visit which always made her day and put a smile on her face. This joy may not have been shared verbally but you knew it by her smile.

Anita is survived by several cousins. She is preceded in death by her brother, Paul, who died of leukemia in 1953 at the age of 23, her mother Rose in 1972 and her father Frank in 1975.

Anita will be laid to rest next to her Mother and Father at St. Johns Cemetery in Fort Atkinson, Iowa
