Another of the pioneer fathers has passed to his rest. OLE ENGBERTSEN was born In Ringebe, Norway, April 5th, 1819, and died in Decorah December 28th, 1899, aged 80 years, 8 months and 23 days.
From his birthplace he removed when quite young to Christiania where he was apprenticed to and learned the trade of a tailor, which he followed all his life, belonging while living in Christiana to the regular trade organizations. In 1864 he emigrated to America coming directly to Decorah via Quebec. Here he has lived ever since, following his avocation until he was 72 years old, up to which time he had never known a day’s illness. The infirmities literally crept upon him, first a tremulousness that slowly developed into confired palsy that continued until death.
He was married Dec. 29th, 1844, to Bertha Maria Frederickson in Akers church, Christiana, who preceded him to the better life, Feb. 27th, 1894. To them were born six children, five of whom reside in Decorah. The sixth, or second son, died when two years old, and was buried in Norway. The living are Hartvig A. Engbertson, Josephine Ingvolstad, Nora L. Hayward, Matilda A. Larsen, and Richard A. Engbertson. On New Years’ day, 1900, deceased was laid away to rest in the Norwegian Cemeterv.Transcriber's Note: His gravestone shows the name spelled Engbertson.
