OBITUARIES.
Frederick Stevens died Sunday evening at his home in the south part of the fourth ward, after an illness of but little more than forty-eight hours. Four years ago Mr. S. suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he recovered. On Friday he was stricken a second time and never regained consciousness,
Mr. Stevens was born in Susquehanna county, Pa., in 1825, and came to Decorah to live in 1876. He leaves a wife, two sons and one daughter,—Frank, of this city, James, of Geneva, Ill , and Mrs. G. H. Thune, of Ossian. He was a brother of Mrs. J. H. Mackenstadt, of West Decorah. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Rev. M. Willett officiating.
Mr. Stevens was a good citizen, quiet but genial in disposition, and possessed a skill in landscape gardening that caused his services to be often sought in beautifying residence grounds. The declining health of his later years, however, compelled him to relinquish in a large measure the more arduous labor and he confined himself to light occupation.
