Ole Helgeson, one of the older residents of Calmer, for years in the early days a school teacher, and a teacher in the Norwegian language in the Norwegian families at their homes in this neighborhood, died at his home in the south part of town on the morning of the 27th inst. The funeral services took place yesterday at the Norwegian Lutheran church here, Rev. Paul Koren officiating. Deceased was quite prominent in church affairs, and was widely and favorably known. The funeral was attended by a great number of people, most of them friends and acquaintances in town and from all the surrounding country. The interment was at the Lutheran cemetery. Deceased had been ill for several weeks, though many had not heard of his illness until after his death, Mr. Helgeson had been a resident of Calmar for about forty years and was seventy years of age. He leaves surviving him his widow, three sons and three daughters.
Transcriber’s Note: Calmar Lutheran Cemetery shows the name spelled Helgesen and that he was born Aug. 12, 1832.
