Mrs. Andrew Gunderson died at her home in Ossian July 27, from heart weakness resulting from inflammatory rheumatism. From a long obituary in the Bee we glean that:—
Olina Vaala was born in Saude, Chickasaw county, Iowa, May 9th, 1868. On May 8th, 1891, she was married to Andrew T. Gunderson, four children being born to this union, the youngest of whom died shortly after birth. The deceased was a woman of lovely character, was a good mother, a devoted Christian, devoting her life entirely to the welfare of her children and her household. She was always cheerful and happy, bearing her illness without a murmur. No gloom ever came over her bedside where she waited in patient suffering for the end to come when she might be releived of her earthly pain and sorrow to live with her Creator. She was an emblem of a perfect Christian who lived in this world, but did not forget the Gospel of Christ. She discharged the duties of her station for God’s sake with fidelity and exactness, and hence she was prepared to enter into that “undiscovered country from whoso borne no traveler ever returns," to meet and live with her Creator. The funeral took place Monday afternoon at three o’clock at the M. E church Rev. Kroag and Rev. Platt delivering the sermons. The pall bearers were John Moe, R. W. Anderson, G. G, Oyloe, Sara Noreson, Ole Reveland and Andrew Leo.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows her name spelled Olena and that she is buried in Hillside Cemetery.
