We have to record again this week the death of one of the old settlers. Mrs. Winter, commonly known as Grandma Winter, died last Monday afternoon, at her home near the Butz church. Katharine Grundler was born in Bedlinger, State of Wurtemburg, Germany, September 17, 1818. She was married in the old country to Mr. {?}nv; and in 1853, with one little girl two years old, they emigrated to this country. They stayed in New York City for about two months, when they moved to Milwaukee, afterwards coming to Clayton county, and from there she came to Ridgeway. In the meantime her husband died and she married Mr. Winter, who also died some years ago. Her only daughter, Mrs. Hill, died about nine years ago, leaving Grandma to care for a family of nine children. These grandchildren with six greatgrandchildren; her son-in-law, Mr. Hill, and brother living in Milwaukee, a sister in the old country survive her. She was a faithful member of the Butz church. The sympathy of their friends go out to the bereaved ones, although they grieve not as one having no hopes.
