We are sorry to record the death of one of our most respected citizens, Mr. Jacob Aga, father of John and Jake Aga, of our city. Jacob Aga was born in Hardanger, Norway, in 1835.{sic} In 1858 he came to America with his wife and three children. They settled at Washington Prairie but only stayed there about a year, when they moved to a farm near Ridgeway. There he resided until a few years ago when he, with his wife, moved to Ridgeway, making their home with John Aga. Six children were born to them, of whom four, with his wife, survive him. Lars, of Dell Rapids, S. D., Julia, also of Dell Rapids, and John and Jake, of Ridgeway. Sunday Grand-pa Aga was overcome with the heat, and it seemed evident from the first that he could not rally. He died Monday evening, July 22, 1901. He was 76 years old. Thus Winnesheik county has lost another pioneer, and Ridgeway a much respected citizen. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the relatives in their loss.
Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Sept. 30, 1825 which agrees with his stated age. It also shows he is buried in Lincoln Lutheran.
