Two Grand Children of H. F. Cleveland burned to Death.
A copy of the Clear Lake, Minn., Times comes to us with the following sad item pencil-marked. The friends of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Cleveland, formerly of Hesper, will read it with sorrow and sympathy to the afflicted people:— A telephone to H. F. Cleveland Monday evening announced the terrible tragedy of the burning to death of his two little grandchildren at St. Francis that afternoon, about 5 o’clock. The name of the eldest was Orin, a bright little fellow, aged three years, and quite well known to our people, having been here on a visit the past spring. The other was a baby 18 months old named Ima, both children of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Cleveland. The terrible accident was caused by the explosion of a gasoline stove which set fire to the house, the building being consumed with its entire contents. The children were playing in a room adjoining the one which contained the deadly stove. The mother, in her efforts to rescue her little ones, was also badly burned. Mr. Cleveland and wife have gone to St. Francis, taking the early morning train Tuesday.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows they are buried in West Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Grove, MN. Ima was born Jan. 17, 1900 and Orin was born April 16, 1898 and they both died June 27, 1901.
