OBITUARY,
Jacob Thorgrimson Bjortuft was born in the parish Tin Telemarken, Norway, August 3d, 1821, and came to America in 1850, locating at Muskego, Wis. on July 29th, 1850, he married Ragnhild Knutson, who with three children, survives him. He was one of Springfield township's successful farmers. Mr. T was a man of excellent Christian character. He was one of some few, now gray with age, and still with us, who in 1853 organized Springfield congregation. If his heart clung to his business it cleaved still more to the church of Christ; and, as others with him, he was willing to devote his time and money and counsel to the interests of this congregation, which he assisted in building two churches and a parsonage. He was an esteemed brother in the church and a member of good standing. He served his church in various ways as deacon and trustee. His purse was open to the wants of the educational, missionary and charitable institutions of the United Norwegian Lutheran church, and as he was a dutiful church member so he also conducted himself as a devout Christian with his family and in his daily walk. He died Thursday morning, April 25th, 1901, at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 22 days. The funeral services were held Sunday at 1 o’clock, at the home by Rev. Abr. Jacobson, and at the church at 3 o’clock Rev. K. E. Bakken delivered the funeral sermon. The funeral was largely attended.
