Colleen Lois (Bergan) Hovey, age 89, of Cresco, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at RHSHC in Cresco.

Colleen was born on March 24, 1930 in Winneshiek County to Carl and Mabel (Kjos) Bergan. She was baptized on April 20, 1930 at Madison Lutheran Church. She walked three miles to a country school in Madison Township before moving to Bluffton Township where she attended a one room school house, #4, with no lights. Colleen completed eighth grade before going to high school in Ridgeway where she played basketball for four years, graduating in 1949.

Colleen started dating Maynard Hovey when she was a senior in high school. They married July 28, 1950 at Orleans Lutheran Church. They farmed together and raised their five children. She was a farm wife; helping outdoors with chores and field work, as well as cooking and baking. She was very active in church activities; including Sunday School, ladies aid and janitorial duties. Colleen was a 4-H leader for many years. After the children grew up she went to work in Cresco at Hoines Drug Store and Park View Café.

Maynard and Colleen moved to Cresco in 1989. Maynard died December 7, 2009. Colleen continued to live in her home until her death.

Survivors include her children; Sonia (Dean) Ollendieck, Cindy Hovey, Randy (Peggy) Hovey, Marian (Dean) Wiedeman and Clinton Hovey, 13 grandchildren; who are all casket bearers and honorary casket bearers, 30 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, her siblings; LaVerne Bergan, Ethel Tietje, Jean Morris, Janet (Joe) Frank, brother-in-law, Vernon Spilde, sister-in-law, Roseann Hovey and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Maynard, her parents, her father and mother-in-law; Philip and Hannah (Hanson) Hovey, brothers: Eldon Bergan and Marvin Bergan, brothers and sisters-in-law; Herb Tietje, Jim Morris, Lois Bergan, Harlan (Norma) Hovey, Philip (Rose) Hovey, Ken Hovey, Wilma (Galin) Barth, Kathryn Spilde and a great grandson, Tyler Jason Hovey.
