Evelyn Billie Otteson, age 84 of Decorah, IA, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2020 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital

A private memorial service will be held at a later date with burial in the Freeport Cemetery.

Evelyn was born on November 24, 1935 to Wallace and Thelma (Harrison) Gold in Tampa, Florida. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson HS in 1955. She worked for Pensacola Telephone (South Bell) as an operator for 8 years and then became a stay- at- home mom. She was united in marriage to Dale Merton Otteson on August 14th, 1958 in Florida and then moved to Jackson, MS, where she spent time raising her kids and selling Avon part time. She would frequently travel to Nashville, TN where she was an active member of the Country Music Association and enjoyed spending time with many of the singers of that era. She enjoyed having weekend travels, stopping at antique stores and historical sites around the state. In 1974, they finally settled in Iowa where she worked at Wapsie Produce before going to work at Rockwell Collins, retiring in 2002 after 24 years. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren.

Evelyn is survived by her three children: Donna (Frank) O'Neill, Waukon; Edward Otteson, Pearl, Mississippi; and Jerry (Cathy) Otteson, Sun Prairie, Wis.; three sisters, Betty Beal; Thelma Joyce Watson; Barbara Nerger; and eleven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dale. Parents: Wallace and Thelma Gold. Brothers: Jack, Johnny and Charles.
