Anna Markley was born May 20, 1846, in Ontario, Canada, and was the daughter of Michael and Eliza Markley. In 187o she united in marriage with Nicholas Whitlofer. To them were born two daughters, both of whom survive: Mrs. Mary Samuelson of Decorah and Mrs. Emma Wilmot of Austin, Minn. Mr. Whitlofer died some years ago.
The deceased came to Winneshiek county in 1875, previously having lived in Howard county.
